I went fishing 30 years ago in Delaware with a couple guys I went to school with. One friend had moved 3 years ago. We would catch the sharks and shoot them in the head as soon as they came up. It was treated like a trash fish then.

The shark in the OP doesn't appear to be overly big. I mean, it's easy to see how another shark would take a couple chunks outta that one.

Maybe it was sick and got picked off? Or maybe those bite marks are the result of a feeding frenzy gone wrong.

Gosh I love sharks.

Interesting fact: Through out the world, people who have a diet heavy in shark meat (not fins) have a 88% less cancer than the rest of us. Sharks do not get cancer, even when injected with live cells.

Grew up on the great lakes. I waded streams and ponds. I'm not good at catch and release. I did know that about the cancer. I think alot of fast food fish might be shark. Thanks for the tip next time I'm on the ocean I'm snagging a lemon shark.
