Ministry of Defence police officer captures pictures of strange creature in Helensburgh area.

There has been another sighting of a mysterious big cat in the west of Scotland.

While such stories - although frequent and stretching back for years - are often open to question, this time the witness was a Ministry of Defence Police dog handler who spotted the creature on the doorstep of HM Naval Base Clyde.

PC Chris Swallow from Helensburgh was helping a friend in their garden in the town's Kildonan Drive on June 30 when he made the sighting.

He said: "My friend’s house is next to the West Highland Line and at one point I looked down and saw what I first thought was a black Labrador on the tracks.

"There were trains coming and going throughout the day and I was a bit concerned, but when I looked again I saw that the animal wasn’t moving the way I expected a dog to. It was then I realised that what I was seeing was a big cat and I shouted on my friend to come and have a look.

"We were stunned.

"I ran to my car to grab my mobile phone for a picture. I stood on the nearby rail bridge at Winston Road and got a still photo and a couple of minutes of footage of the animal moving up the railway line. It was remarkable. I’ve heard stories about creatures like this moving about the countryside, but never really believed them before.

"Looking back at the video I don’t think there’s any doubt that it’s a big cat."

There have been previous sightings of strange big cats in the area before. In 2004 there were reports of a tan coloured creature in the woods and hills bear Loch Long. There have also been reports of a black creature at the Garelochhead training camp.

Speaking to STV news, PC Swallow said: "How many labradors would walk a length of railway line?

"I'm a police dog handler, and it is hard enough to get a dog to balance on a dog agility catwalk which is around eight inches wide, never mind on a track just three inches wide.

"I have seen at the Tattoo the RAF police dogs, which are trained to walk balanced between two scaffold polls, but the way this was balanced means it has to be a cat of some description."

He added: "It was not a domestic tom, it was something bigger. One expert I spoke to said it was not leopard or a puma but something more interesting because it is something in between, some unknown type of cat."

definatly of the cat family ...tail moves to gracefully for a dog and definatly the sloping back of a cat ...but yea i couldnt see anything until it came back out of the woods except a black ball
