Re: Michael Wittmann Panzer Ace
I have to give credit where it is earned, and Michael Wittmann desreves a place in history for his intuition on the battlefield. True aces like him should be looked up to, regardless of the side he was on. No one can dispute his tallent for tactics and survival.

Re: Michael Wittmann Panzer Ace
Also keep in mind that "side" wasn't an option for the Germans. For every male in the Third Reich, regardless of their enthusiasm or disgust with Hitler, the military was mandatory, period. Totalitarian states don't do individual opinion. In such a society, however, joining the elite Waffen SS was viewed as a good career choice for the future -- which, thankfully as it turns out, never happened.
