Metal Storm Area Denial Weapon System Trial, Port Wakefield, Australia, 2005
The Area Denial Weapon System Capability Demonstrator was tested at the Port Wakefield Proof and Experimental Range near Adelaide, South Australia, in 2005. Sponsored by the Australian Department of Defence and led by the Defence Science and Technology Organisation, the prototype used Metal Storm electronically fired barrels containing 40 mm projectiles stacked nose-to-tail. The trial system comprised four networked pods, each fitted with four barrels and linked to a command and control station. A computerized sensor system identified simulated targets, but a human operator was required to authorize firing. The demonstration used inert rounds and was a weapons test. Although each pod had a stated maximum rate of 6,000 rounds per minute, the demonstrated burst consisted of 20 rounds fired at 1,500 rounds per minute. The system was conceived as a possible replacement for anti-personnel landmines after Australia signed the Ottawa Treaty. The footage shows the pods acquiring, aiming at and firing on simulated targets across the range. |

Re: Metal Storm Area Denial Weapon System Trial, Port Wakefield, Australia, 2005
The Fastest gun in the world is designed by Metal Storm. It is a 36 barrel prototype which could fire about 1,000,000 rounds per minute. (16600 bullets a second.) The fact that the bullets are stacked behind each other enables it to fire that fast. This weapon can be mounted on jeeps, planes, helicopters, tanks etc..

this reminds me of the guns in Aliens. they should've thrown a cricket ball or a rugby ball into the path of the guns and see how well the work like that, those close ups dont really do it justice i think |
