Re: Masked Bandit Eating Grapes

My roommate is a bit of a Jungle Jane. Among numerous other animals she raised as a kid, she had a raccoon. She found it abandoned as a kit and raised it to adulthood. She says they purr much louder than cats and are quite loving.

But her raccoon got out one day and was gone for several days. When it came back home, it'd gone too wild to take back in, so she just let it stay wild.

When I lived in Everett, WA, we had packs of raccoons coming over from the greenbelts to ravage pet food left out at nights. We only fed this one gentle feral cat during the day, but the damn '***** would fight over the leftover bits at dusk. So, to cut down on the '**** fights, I started chucking half-pitchers of dog food at the buggers (cheaper than cat food and they didn't care) and it calmed them down. Until I had 20-30 raccoons w/kits showing up at my "buffet" every night. I still fed them and, as long as I chucked out enough so everyone got fed, there were no more fights. :S IDGAF, as I was working for the software khans and dog food is cheap.

So it's possible to raise the little buggers as pets, but the window of opportunity for success is pretty small. I'll stick to cats and Frenchies for me.
