Re: For the Love of Tanks.

when i was in the South african army i was in an artillery division, i wasn't in a tank crew or even a gun crew but i did get to be navigator on one of these babies for a trip of about 600kms...we were a convoy of about 10

it's more of a mobile artillery unit than a tank, but is still a damn impressive machine

The G6 is fully compatible with NATO standard 155-mm ammunition and has a direct fire range of 3000 meters (using a Frag-HE round). Used together with the specially developed modular charge ammunition system, the 45-calibre gun provides accurate coverage of a target zone of more than 1000 square kilometres, without change of position. 45 rounds are carried on board. The onboard gyro-controlled navigation and automatic laying systems enable the gun to be brought into action independently within 60 seconds of stopping and it can move off 30 seconds after firing, thus presenting an elusive target.

Their accurate G6 155mm howitzers continue to outrange all competitors, and the base-bleed ammunition technology they pioneered has become a widespread option for countries looking to extend the range of their existing artillery systems. Industrial partnerships with Rheinmetall and Diehl BGT Defence of Germany have led to orders to supply Germany’s 155mm howitzer and 120mm mortar ammunition, and partnerships have also been explored with General Dynamics in the USA.

Re: For the Love of Tanks.

There's been rumours of a stealth tank (aka Command & Conqueror) here in the UK.

There was supposedly work done with the USA dating as far back as 1999 and probably even further back, but the most recent info is here (10th Jan 2011):

Re: For the Love of Tanks.

Oh yeah I love military hardware!
My favorite would be the Russian T-90...Strong and fast. T-90s are being built under license here in India, I got the chance to see the inauguration of the first 10 home-built T-90 tanks in Chennai. I didn't take any pictures though =(

Re: For the Love of Tanks.

damn...i didn't know the G^ scould chuck multiple rounds on the same target at the same time just by changing th angle of attack.....i suppose it makes sense.....fuck, you wouldn't want more than one of those shells landing near you at any time.....i saw the thing in action at a few demos and it leaves nothing standing
