If the lion wanted to kill the guy she would have killed him. She was clearly playing or trying to play. You should still probably not keep a lion as a pet but if you do don't put your hands so close to its mouth when its eating.

Animals can show respect and loyalty, but they don't know right from wrong on a conscious level like humans do. If it ever gets frustrated and pissed off from being caged in such a small place, it could kill its owners. I wouldn't feel bad in the least, it'll at least serve as a warning to others thinking of doing the same thing.
