Lightning Close Calls
Here is a small collection of lightning strikes isolated digitally from old VHS tape I shot in 2000 and 2001 in Livermore & Castro Valley, California. As can be seen, some of them came dangerously close to where I was filming. It was a sobering experience to see what could not be seen live due to how fast it can strike, and realize how foolish it was to be so exposed. I'm a lot more careful these days, but still enjoy a good lightning and thunder storm.

Awesome set. Thank you! I used to love thunderstorms as a kid. Now I am simultaneously drawn to/terrified by lightning. I'm the guy you see sprinting through parking lots in the rain...  |

Can you define goofy?  I have watched a few documentaries on lightning strikes, and a recent one that I saw showed a support group. The support group was of victims showing shared psychological symptoms like ADD and mania some with depression. But the documentary has said this phenomenon hasn't been accepted as a common symptom yet. Is your buddy having a similar experience? I am extremely curious. (You can tell me to mind muh business, too. Either way.  )

He has weird tics in his face and eyes. He was working for a roofing company and is now wealthy after a lawsuit found the company liable.

That's crazy! At least the cash is a decent silver lining? I can imagine that would be scary as hell. Lightning: 0 out of 10, would not bang.  |
