Totally agree. One of my work buddies - who was always a happy and optimistic guy - a couple of years ago (at the age of 25) lost his wife to cancer (she was 24). They had a kid together who was 2 years old at the time of his mother's death. The guy is now an alcoholic and I don't blame him.
