Re: Kitty Werthmann, She Survived Hitler to Give us This Advice

For gun control, its the 1938 "German Weapons Act". Here's the article from wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_pol...an_Weapons_Act . Hopefully I didnt fuck that link up... Anyways, under Article 6 of the act it says "This regulation is valid in the state of Austria and in the Sudeten-German districts." http://www.aidoann.com/guncontrol.html The law was mainly intended to make sure Jews couldnt own weapons, but it loosened restrictions for 'Aryans'.

The stuff about the economy I read in 'The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich' by William Shirer.
I did read up on this. The supposed relaxation of the weapons law was carefully worded to exclude those the regime distrusted. Since in almost every occupied region the regime confiscated weapons I find it quite likely that she is correct. It doesn't matter if they later dropped some restrictions since they confiscated guns by using registrations made prior to the annexation of Austria. Many people simply were quietly taken away. They did this in France, and Poland as well. Here is one poster I did find from France.

Probably a hundred years from now, someone will still step forward and claim to be a holocaust victim.

Interesting point. Maybe they started to think Austria was being 'infiltrated' by communists or something similar, I don't know. Austria would have been closer to Germany than either France or Poland, but if the Germans thought they had just cause, I'm sure they would have taken away everyone's guns.
