Keret House: Guinness-Listed World's Narrowest House in Warsaw, 2012
Keret House opened in Warsaw, Poland, on October 20, 2012. Designed by Polish architect Jakub Szczęsny of the studio Centrala, the two-story, wedge-shaped dwelling was inserted into a narrow gap between two apartment buildings. It was named for Israeli writer Etgar Keret, its first resident, and was intended to serve as a temporary base for visiting writers. The prefabricated steel frame was assembled off-site before being installed and clad with translucent and perforated white panels. Inside are a bedroom, kitchen and bathroom connected by a ladder rather than conventional stairs. The completed structure is officially classified as an art installation because it does not meet Warsaw building regulations. Guinness World Records lists Keret House as the world's narrowest house, although published measurements disagree on its narrowest and widest points.
