I Found This Snake

I found this snake last summer, in my driveway. It was just chillin. I don’t see a lot of snakes so I was very surprised, I almost ran it over.

Aww, he's lovely. I'm so glad that you noticed him before you got into your car. Thanks for sharing.

No clue. I tried to figure out if it was poisonous or not but still undecided.

Re: I Found This Snake

Well, I come across rattlesnakes even in my garage, but I don't ever harm them. I relocate them and let them go. Put a 5 gallon plastic bucket over them, then slide sheet metal or a piece of cardboard under the bucket, flip them both over, and you have a snake in a bucket. Then take them out somewhere and let them go. Snakes are very beneficial. For one thing, here in Arizona we have rodents with rabies and with black plague, a leftover remnant of the Spanish Conquistadors when they went through the Southwest U.S. and the snakes are disease interrupters, meaning they kill and eat rodents that have these diseases, but don't pass them on to any other animals. They keep down the gopher, rat, field mouse and packrat populations.

The snake ended up successfully crossing the road after that and fucked off somewhere else

Re: I Found This Snake

Milk snake.
Not the red one.
There are many color variations, but I've caught this type in New England.

You're on to something

Eastern Milksnakes have circular red or brown spots on their back, outlined in black, and a light "Y" on the back of their heads.

Re: I Found This Snake

In the last few seconds of the video you can see that the snake is a little upset that I tried to touch him and he shakes or “rattles” his tail. I thought that was the most interesting thing about this encounter considering it definitely was not a rattlesnake
