Hydrothermal Worm

With its razor-sharp teeth, this fearsome beast looks like it could give you a nasty nip — but that's not the case at all.
This organism is one of the smallest living things on Earth — measuring little more than a bacterium.
A powerful electron microscope was zoomed in 525 times to capture this image of a gruesome hydrothermal worm.
The worms exist only in the deepest parts of the ocean, and are generally found near hydrothermal vents.
Vents are fissures in the planet's surface which spew hot water from beneath the Earth's crust.

Re: Hydrothermal Worm

NOt sure is more impressive the worm's appearance or the performances of that scanning electron microscope: the width of the field in the image is 568 microns, 568/1000 of a millimeter.

I saw one of these in The Empire Strikes Back, it was a bit bigger than this one though.

Re: Hydrothermal Worm

Put that into perspective, for that thing or alien, it can't even realize that we exist, we are so much bigger. Do you think it could understand the relevance of a 6 lane highway. Absolutely not, so whose to say that space isn't just a cell of many cells that lives inside an object so great in size we can't even fathom its existence. This thing that we live in that we can't grasp looks down on us with its electron microscope and thinks we look interesting. Maybe we think its God. Maybe it thinks were bacteria. Certainly if you look down on planet earth at night with all of it's lights it looks like what mold looks like when it attacks bread. It's just something to ponder.
