Hurricane Ike Damage on the Texas and Louisiana Coasts, 2008
Hurricane Ike struck the north end of Galveston Island, Texas, as a Category 2 hurricane on September 13, 2008, after crossing the Bahamas and Cuba. The storm devastated communities along the upper Texas coast and southwestern Louisiana. Almost every structure was destroyed in parts of the Bolivar Peninsula, including Crystal Beach, Gilchrist and High Island. Flooding covered roads and neighborhoods, displaced boats and vehicles, damaged cemeteries and left homes surrounded by debris. In Houston, the 75-story JPMorgan Chase Tower lost many windows, and about 2.6 million customers lost electrical power. The National Hurricane Center recorded 103 direct deaths across Ike's path and up to 64 indirect deaths in Texas. Sixteen people remained unaccounted for as of August 2011. Damage in the United States was estimated at about $29.52 billion, making Ike the country's second-costliest hurricane after Katrina at the time. Cuba sustained an estimated $3 billion to $4 billion in damage.

Re: Hurricane Ike Damage on the Texas and Louisiana Coasts, 2008
Here's some pictures I took of my neighborhood. We didn't have power for almost 2 weeks and it pretty much just flooded and knocked a bunch of trees down. When it got too hot to stay at the house, we decided to go up north. A 3 hour drive turned into almost 8 because we had to go around huge trees and light posts in a lot of spots.

the eye passed directly over my house, i ran naked through the night during the worst part, you don't feel alive until you go running bare ass naked though a F-5 hurricane, challenging all that comes to you, so much greatness, on its own level then came 2 weeks of night bike rides while running from the SWARMS of cops you would go to jail if caught outside after 12am, oh god no power was fun, everyone who couldn't handle it was a BITCH |
