Re: Huge Spiders Nest
They're not spiders, they're actually called daddy long legs, and they're often mistaken for such. As a kid, I used to spend my summers on my relative's farm near King George, Virginia, and those things used to nest in the garage and tool shed by the thousands. My cousins and I used to stick our hands in the nest and try and douse each other with the animals. Then we'd run around laughing, with these things crawling all over us. ![]() BTW, they're harmless to humans, because, unlike their cousins, the spider, they don't have fangs, nor do they spin webs. |

Re: Huge Spiders Nest
The top specie is know as daddy long legs, the bottom, havestmen. Most folks often get these creatures confused (even most of the educational sites are incorrect on this). These two animal species are quite different, but look very similar. The top is a true spider, very common in the S. E. United States. The bottom is NOT a spider, and is also common in the S. E. United States. The spider has fangs, spins webs and is 100% a predator. The harvestmen has no fangs, spins no webs and will feed on both plants and small insects. In my prior post, I mistakenly called the creatures in the video daddy long legs, when I should've referred to them as a colony of harvestmen. Oh well. Sorry for the error. . |
