This is not the first time I've heard about ants living in electronic equipment; if my elderly memory serves there was a similar case with an apple computer, pc and another scanner. Maybe a scout found a warm area with ventilation and reported back? Or the noise or smell translates in Ant to "Elm Street Hilton"?

possible antswer: ants are attracted to the smell of ink as it smells like the pheromones they emit to leave a trail for other ants behind to follow

Never seen ants do that. I wonder why he hasn't noticed, like, an ant train leading to the printer, from the floor? Oh well, his printer, not mine.
