House with 24,000 Graves in the Back Garden...
In the news today... Make an offer if you dare! £60,000 house for sale with 24,000 graves in back garden... The perfect Halloween home is to be sold at auction this week - a disused cemetery lodge house with 24,000 graves in the garden. St James Cemetery Lodge, in Bath, Somerset, sits on the gate of a graveyard and is "just yards away" from thousands of interments. It was first opened, along with the grave yard, in 1861, but was closed to new interments in 1937 when burials transferred to another site in the city. The lodge's first resident was Bath's Superintendent, who worked from 6am to 6pm for a mere £1.25-a-week in 1861. Rev. William Jay Bolton, a vicar who introduced the use of stained glass in American churches and R.E Dickinson, former Mayor of Bath, are both buried in the cemetery. |
