I came across the 'Mommy Dead and Dearest' doc awhile ago - probably on youtube - that was the first time I heard about this story. I think she's served enough time in prison...her whole life was a prison. How does this even happen? How does a doctor get fooled into putting a feeding tube into a child that doesn't need it? And that's just one of the many things that were done to her poor body that weren't needed.
There was another movie I watched called 'Love You to Death'.When i watched it (probably on a streaming site) the description said nothing about it being specifically Gypsy Rose's story, but its pretty obvious that it was. It was a bit different than anything I had seen at the time and showed more of what may have happened when nobody was around. A bit cheesy...but I would expect nothing less from 'Lifetime'.

Those were my thoughts when I first heard her story as well. How in the hell did this happen?

So many systems failed this young girl, so so many. I have zero remorse for the mom. Patricia Arquette plays her in The Act, and she is doing a really good job. Only 4 episodes are currently out and I hate the bitch already.

They lived in Louisiana during Katrina and that’s how she got other doctors to believe her story. All of Gypsy Rose’s medical files “got lost in the storm” so they had to take Dee Dee’s word for it. Then she doctor shopped until she got what she wanted. Need a feeding tube? Starve your kid & tell the dr that everything she eats comes back up and she’s losing weight. Boom feeding tube. She would go to different doctors in different states to get what she wanted so no pharmacy and no doctor caught on. If anyone questioned her, she would move and start over again.

There’s reddit boards called Illness Fakers & Illness Fakers Gone Wild that are about people who fake chronic illnesses to get attention and meds and shit. It’s crazy what some people will do to themselves to become “instafamous”
