Gypsy Rose Blanchard & "The Act"
I'm excited about this series. It starts March 20th on Hulu. Based on a true story. In 2015, Gypsy Rose Blanchard was sentenced to 10 years in prison for the murder of Dee Dee Blanchard, her mother, who raised Gypsy as terminally ill and kept her in a wheelchair for most of her childhood until Dee Dee was found dead at their home in Springfield, Missouri. Dee Dee, who reportedly had Munchhausen syndrome by proxy, had been making her daughter pass herself off as younger and pretend to be disabled and chronically ill, thus subjecting her to unnecessary surgery and medication, and controlling her through occasional physical and psychological abuse. Munchhausen expert Marc Feldman says that this is the first such case in his quarter-century of experience of an abused child killing the parent. Gypsy Rose plead guilty to second-degree murder and is serving a 10-year sentence; after a brief trial in November 2018 Godejohn (Gypsy's boyfriend) was convicted of first-degree murder and later sentenced to life in prison. The case was the subject of a 2017 HBO documentary, Mommy Dead and Dearest. Lifetime and Hulu have also produced dramatizations of the case. yeah. I saw the 2 hour special they had on either A&E or ID network. that was a messed-up two person team. Her mother abused the begeezus out of her daughter through psychological torture and unneeded drugs. Had her daughter not stopped her cold, the torture would most surely have continued. They should have given her less than 3 years. Mother was crazy and brainwashed her.

I agree that her sentence should have been a third of what it was - if any at all. I’ve read that Gypsy displays some pathalogical behaviors, due to being raised by her screwed up mother. She definitely needs heavy therapy, or she’s at risk to be predatory, herself. |

I haven't watched the newest show, as I don't have Hulu, but I did watch the special on ID and I've followed the case prior. I hope she gets the therapy she needs, because holy fuck was her life shit.

Yea, there's no way she came out of all of that w/o being at least a little screwed up. I watched her on Dr. Phil. He does a prison interview with her. She said that being in jail was better than the life she had w/ her mom. |
