Guy Remodeling His Bathroom Finds A Gun

Here are some pictures from a guy who was recently remodeling his bathroom and discovered a firearm buried under the floor.

First off, apologies for the photo quality, as you can see here. These were taken with a much older phone.

Anyway, our house has a bathroom on the first floor where the pipes have been freezing every winter - we had to keep a space heater in there every day just to keep them from freezing over.

So, cut to this year, when it was decided that the addition/bathroom needs to be gutted and renovated.

The renovators came earlier this week, gutted the bathroom, and to no surprise the addition/bathroom was shoddily built. Scrap wood was clearly used, pipes went to nowhere, which then leaked and caused mold and other headaches.

One of the renovators actually fell through the floor, it was so moist and moldy - I believe the hole here was from his foot.

After they tore up the floor and started digging around under the house, they found a super old looking firearm buried in the dirt.

Here it is. As you can imagine, we were pretty shocked and surprised to find this. The gun has already been turned over to the proper authorities and is no longer in our possession. The authorities took all the information we had and said they will most likely be in contact if they find anything out about the firearm.

I guess you never know what could be hiding under your floorboards!

Some closer shots of the firearm - as you see it's completely rusted out. From what I can tell from what I've heard - as I didn't drop it off, another family member did - the authorities tried to open it, but could not.

The police lab is planning on cleaning it up and fire it, to see if the ballistics match any crimes. Whoa!

Re: Guy Remodeling His Bathroom Finds A Gun

There were three main manufactures of these very popular little five shot pocket revolvers, Smith & Wesson, Harrington & Richardson, and Iver Johnson. The revolvers were most commonly produced in .32 caliber and .38 caliber from around the 1880's to the early 1930's. Very commonly found and due to the cheap nickel plating usually found in crap condition. The revolver looks to be unloaded.

Re: Guy Remodeling His Bathroom Finds A Gun

Here is a picture of a Hopkins & Allen which could also be a Forehand & Wadsworth depending on the year manufactured.
