Giant Rabbits

World's Largest 2010

At 4ft 3in from nose to tail, Darius the Continental Giant has been crowned the world's biggest rabbit. And he's still growing.

Darius, pictured with six-year-old Georgia Hadley, is only just over 12 months old and breeder Annette Edwards expects him to keep adding to his 3st 7lb bulk for at least another six months.

That's good news for her greengrocer in Worcester because he already eats 12 carrots, six apples and two cabbages a day.

Amy

Was the world's largest in 2008.

In her quest to breed the world's biggest rabbit, Annette Edwards has struck 24-carrot gold. Three-year-old Amy, a Continental Giant, now weighs three and a half stone and is 4ft from the tip of her nose to her bumper bobtail.

Re: Giant Rabbits

I have to go and research this.

are they a specific breed, or is this a result of specialized nutrition?

they look as if they would be fun to have around.....although the wild ones can be quite vicious.

Now I can add to my menagerie.

Re: Giant Rabbits

There are British Giant rabbits and other breeds. It's not due to over feeding though pink, they are an actual breed.
I have 2 pics of my friends bitish giant lop eared bunnies i will upload tomorrow.

My rabbit is a mini lop eared bunny, i couldn't afford to keep one this big!

Re: Giant Rabbits

Giant Chinchilla

The Giant Chinchilla is a result of crosses between Chinchilla breeds and Flemish Giants; it originates in the United States. This breed is used primarily as a commercial meat rabbit. Other chinchillas include the Standard and the American Chinchillas.

The Giant Chinchilla Rabbit Association is the National Specialty Club chartered by ARBA sponsoring the American Giant Chinchilla Rabbit. It can be used for meat, show and fur. It is a (cross-breed).

British Giant

This giant breed is not ARBA-accepted, as it is uncommon in the United States and exists predominantly in the UK. It appears in a number of different varieties: dark steel grey, black, white, blue, brown, grey and opal.

Flemish Giant

Typically impressive in size, about 14 lb (6 kg), although it is not uncommon to find adult Flemish Giants weighing 22 lb (10 kg) or more.

Today Flemish Giants are a popular breed to show and own as pets. Flemish Giants have a laid back and docile personality; they are often said to be more like dogs than rabbits.

Flemish Giants are also one of the oldest recognized domestic breeds in existence, and can be found all over the United States.

The Flemish Giant rabbit is a Semi arch breed. As one of the largest breeds of domestic rabbit, the Flemish Giant is a semi-arch type rabbit with its back arch starting back of the shoulders and carrying through to the base of the tail giving a "mandolin" shape. The body of a Flemish Giant Rabbit is long and powerful with good muscular development and relatively broad hindquarters. Bucks have a broad, massive head in comparison to does. Does may have a large, full, evenly carried dewlap (the fold of skin under their chins). The fur of the Flemish Giant is known to be glossy and dense, and when stroked from the hindquarters to the head, the fur will roll back to its original position. ARBA standard has seven different colors, black, blue, fawn, light gray, sandy, steel gray and white.
