Re: Ghost Town of Picher, Oklahoma
I really love abandoned places like this, especially since it is so contemporary. I've actually considered driving back out that way from Pennsylvania just to see a few things I missed the first time. I hope you get to see the town before it is fully demolished. You won't be disappointed. |

Surprised it's not full of homeless crackheads trying to strip the copper wire from the walls.

Re: Ghost Town of Picher, Oklahoma
Arizona was awesome. I checked out the Grand Canyon, Meteor Crater, and the Petrified Forest while I was there. I was also interested in finding old sections of Route 66 while I was out there, so I stumbled upon the Jack Rabbit Trading Post and Williams. Williams really hammed up the Rt 66 theme, which was a lot of fun since they were playing 50's/60's music outside of restaurants, and everyone was eating and dancing and having a great time. Very cool. I wish I would have checked out Kansas a bit more. I was on the return leg of a two-week cross-country trip by myself, and by the time I hit the Plains again, I was burned out. |

Re: Ghost Town of Picher, Oklahoma
There was some state or federal agency keeping pretty tight tabs on the place. They were holed up in the only occupied building I found in Picher. It didn't take long after I started snooping around for some guy in a black car to show up and ask me what I was up to. I told him I was just checking the place out, and he seemed satisfied with that answer and left.
