Frozen Baby Mammoth Said to Be Lyuba, Found on Yamal Peninsula in 2007
A frozen woolly mammoth calf believed to be Lyuba was found on the Yamal Peninsula in Russia in May 2007. She had died about 42,000 years earlier and was preserved in permafrost. Estimates of her age at death have varied from roughly one month to six months. She measured about 85 centimeters high and weighed about 50 kilograms. The calf was later taken to Tokyo for CT scanning and was presented at a press conference on January 4, 2008. She is now held by the Shemanovsky Museum in Salekhard. The photograph shows the intact, hairless, gray-brown calf lying on her side in an open wooden crate on a cardboard base. No attempt was made to clone Lyuba, and she did not die during an experiment.

Re: Frozen Baby Mammoth Said to Be Lyuba, Found on Yamal Peninsula in 2007
what i heard (years back) was they were going to use frozen sperm from a mammoth they found and impregnate an elephant with it? You have to have the species' genome totally mapped out to clone it. It's different for each animal. |
