Re: Fossils

My son is putting a megaladon (prehistoric shark) tooth up on ebay for my friend-----that tooth is HUGEEEE!! It's like the size of a person's hand and in pretty good shape.

Darwin, I found a beautiful garnet protruding from a chunk of granite and composite rock. I was hiking at Vasquez Rocks (Agua Dulce, Ca) when I found it. I showed my geology professor and he was suprised I found that there. Check out Vasquez Rocks online. I once trailered my horse there to trail ride. It's very near my house and is magnificent---you just gotta stare in awe when you approach it.

Re: Fossils

Hmm, all I have is a jar with some really old bumfluff... anybody wanna trade?

Seriously though, I used to have a rock that had a trilobite on it. Somehow I managed to lose it the last time I moved.

He was? That's odd since it's an area of obvious intense geologic activity. Southern California is littered with scenes like that albeit not on such a huge scale. On Edwards AFB alone we have like six or seven extinct volcanoes, their locations are as small as a house and some as large as a mountain. What makes them so obvious is the fact that they're all upheavals of rock in a topographically flat area. I'd take pictures but they frown on it. You can see lots of the areas in movies like the movie The Right Stuff where they're supposed to be in Australia, that's Edwards AFB. Various scenes from Iron Man (1 and 2) as well as Transformers (1 and 2)... well pretty much most Michael Bay movies are filmed partly at Edwards AFB.
