Former Highland Park Police Station in Michigan, Demolished in 2012
The former Highland Park Police Station near Woodward Avenue was demolished in January 2012 after years of disuse. Highland Park's police force was disbanded around 2001 as the financially troubled city came under a state-appointed emergency manager, and the Wayne County Sheriff's Office took over patrols. A re-formed city department later moved to another facility. Before demolition, the decaying station remained filled with records and police equipment. Its interior included barred cells, damaged offices, filing cabinets, law books, mug shots, a typewriter and case boards. Other rooms held helmets, ammunition, parking meters and rows of assembly-room seats. Snow had entered through part of the collapsed structure, covering abandoned cabinets and paperwork.
