FCS Active Protection System: US Army Intercept Test
The US Army's Future Combat Systems program tested an active protection system designed to intercept incoming anti-armor rounds before they struck a vehicle. Raytheon developed the FCS system, which was publicized as Quick Kill and used vertically launched interceptors. A smaller interceptor was intended for close threats such as rocket-propelled grenades, while a larger interceptor was intended for anti-tank missiles and tank rounds. The tests show a launcher rig and target panels, followed by an airborne flash and smoke during an interception. Another sequence shows a tracked armored vehicle, an instrumentation tower and target boards before a large dust and smoke burst. The FCS program was canceled in 2009, and the active protection system was not fielded under that program. |
