Father with 6 Children Spent Years in Basement: Family Waited for 9 Yrs
15/10/2019 In a remote farm near Ruinerwold , Netherlands, a man with six children was discovered who had lived in the cellar of the farm for years. They would wait for "the end of time." The resident of the farm, a 58-year-old man, did not participate in the investigation and was arrested. The eldest son, a 25-year-old man, disappeared from the farm on Sunday evening and reported to a pub in Ruinerwold. A source reports this to RTV Drenthe. The man was completely confused, after which the police were called. Mayor Roger de Groot of De Wolden was also warned. Stairs behind the cupboard The police searched the farm and discovered a staircase to the basement behind a cupboard in the living room. The father and the five other children 'lived' there. The father appeared to have had a cerebral infarction a few years ago and was in bed. The family, the children are between the ages of sixteen and 25, had no contact with the outside world and lived fully self-sufficient. They had a vegetable garden and some animals and kept themselves alive. The neighbors did not know the family, the family rented the house. According to a neighbor, a man lived alone there. A few geese and a barking dog were walking in the yard. The farm is hidden behind the trees. The access road crosses a bridge over a canal. The farm is hardly visible from the main road. The children were not all registered and therefore some are not known to various authorities. Alone on the world The police took the family out of their home and put them in a recreational park, while the home was checked for fire safety, among other things. The children would have no idea that there were other people in the world. It is not known where the mother is. It is possible that she is 'buried' on the site. The police searched the whole evening on the site and it was closed last night. Police spokesman Ramona Venema confirms that the family was found in the farm. According to Venema, the police are still full of questions and are continuing to investigate. Residents of the family in Ruinerwold never knew that a complete family lived in the remote farm. "I always saw a man there. He drove past my house every day. He always waved friendly." It is unclear whether this man is also the resident of the farm. "I really had no idea about this," continues a neighbor who lives a few hundred meters away. "It is a complete surprise. We had no further contact. Anyway, this is the countryside. If someone does not want contact, then you accept that. And furthermore, that man had quite a sympathetic glance." Once this neighbor contacted the occupant of the farm. "The man had a dog, who always barked in the yard. We thought that was sad for the beast. I just wrote a letter and put it in the mailbox. A day later we no longer heard him." The Austrian Local residents do not know the resident, nor do they know his name. Popularly they call the man who came to the farm daily; Joseph the Austrian. He would have come from that country. "That man was so sharp," says another local resident. "You just had to get close to the yard and he already sent you away. He was watching everything with binoculars." He also says he never knew that a family lived there. "No, we knew no better than that he lived alone." In the yard In all those years there have probably only been two inhabitants of Ruinerwold in the yard of 'the Austrian'. Jans Keizer and his wife welcomed the man about nine years ago as a new local resident. "We always visit each new local resident with a flower and a bottle of wine. The day we went to him, the weather was bad. He received us outside, received our presents neatly and then we could leave." According to Keizer, the alarm bells were always ringing during those nine years. "That gate by his bridge was always locked. You never entered the yard. I once tried to look around with a neighbor one evening. Then we saw a camera hanging in a tree. That was reason for us to to go back again. " "We thought about drugs" "I myself always thought it was about drugs. A police car was parked in front of the house several times. We thought the police were aware. But I am ashamed. Look, we don't want drugs here, but ahead. But that so many people have lived that way here for many years, that is sad. If we had known that, we would have gone with the entire neighborhood. Because this is not possible, this is absolutely not allowed. And certainly not in our street. " |
