European Mummies
My apologies if anyone has posted about this before. http://ngm.nationalgeographic.com/20...og-bodies-text Basically (if you're too lazy to read the entire article  ) these mummies, primarily located in places like Germany and Denmark and dating to the Iron Age, were discovered in peat bogs. Typically the only bodies that were put in these bogs were of executed criminals. They contain an anaerobic environment that was able to preserve the bodies. This environment also causes discoloration in the skin and hair as well as compresses the body, which is why the bodies tend to look small and distorted and the hair seems to be dyed orange.
