Re: The End of Osama Bin Laden, In Pictures.

Compound residents
Approximately 19 people were in the compound at the time of the raid:

Killed in action (5), in order:
  • Abu Ahmed al-Kuwaiti (alias Arshad Khan), courier, killed while firing a weapon
  • Adult female, possibly wife of courier, unarmed, used as human shield and/or killed in crossfire
  • Adult male (alias Tareq Khan), courier's brother or cousin, unarmed
  • Hamza or Khalid bin Laden, son of Osama, unarmed
  • Osama bin Laden, unarmed

Wounded in action (2)
  • Amal Ahmed Abdul Fatah, bin Laden's fifth wife, unarmed
  • Adult female , unarmed

Possibly captured by U.S. military (1)
  • Adult male

Left behind alive and unwounded (11)
  • Nine children, ages 2 to 12, including bin Laden's 12-year-old daughter Safia
  • al-Kuwaiti (alias Arshad Khan), may have had two children, aged three and four.
  • al-Kuwaiti may have had three children, his relative (alias Tareq Khan) may have had four children
  • Two adult females, possibly wives of bin Laden
Photographic documentation

CNN cited a senior U.S. official as saying three sets of photographs of bin Laden's body exist:
  • photos taken at a hangar in Afghanistan, described as the most recognizable and gruesome
  • photos taken from the burial at sea on the USS Carl Vinson before a shroud was placed around his body
  • photos from the raid itself, which include shots of the interior of the compound as well as three of the others who died in the raid.

A debate on whether the photos should or should not be released to the public has taken place. Those supporting the release argued that the photos should be considered public records, that the photos are necessary to complete the journalistic record, and that the photos would prove bin Laden's death and therefore prevent conspiracy theories that bin Laden is still alive. Those in opposition to a release of the photos expressed concern that the photos would inflame anti-American sentiment in the Middle East.

CIA Director Leon Panetta said in an interview with NBC Nightly News that photographs of the deceased bin Laden would "ultimately" be released, but the White House immediately denied that any decision had been made, referring to the photos—which reportedly show that a portion of bin Laden's skull had been blown off—as "gruesome." A source told ABC News that the photos depict the physical damage done by "high-caliber bullet." CBS Evening News reported that the photo shows that the bullet which hit above bin Laden's left eye blew out his left eyeball and blew away a large portion of his frontal skull, exposing his brain.

President Obama ultimately decided not to release the photos. In an interview set to air on May 4 on 60 Minutes, Obama stated that "We don't trot out this stuff as trophies. We don't need to spike the football" and that he was concerned with ensuring that "very graphic photos of somebody who was shot in the head are not floating around as an incitement to additional violence, or as a propaganda tool. That's not who we are." Among Republican members of Congress, Senator Lindsay Graham criticized the decision and stated that he wanted to see the photos released, while Senator John McCain and Representative Mike Rogers, the chair of the House Intelligence Committee, supported the decision not to release the photos.

On May 4, Reuters published photos it said were taken by a Pakistan security official in the aftermath of the raid; the photos included images of the helicopter wreckage and three male dead bodies.

The group Judicial Watch has announced that they have filed a Freedom of Information Act request to obtain access to the photos, and has said they are prepared to file a lawsuit seeking general release of the photographs.
Now here's my take on it:
  • How is it that the photos taken in the hangar afterwards are considered to be the "most gruesome"? You would think the ones taken immediately after he was shot (and still lying in his blood with fresh wounds, etc.) would be the most gruesome... unless the hangar photos are just better quality.
  • The argument "releasing photos would inflame anti-American sentiment in the Middle East" is bullshit. Yeah, because those fuckers weren't shooting us already
  • Anyone else find it funny that these U.S. officials -- some of which are ex-military and served time overseas -- are calling a photo of this nature "gruesome"? Maybe they should spend some time on Documenting Reality!
  • It's not like any muslim extremists have ever exercised any sort of precaution or censorship in our favor.
We had to watch our towers burn down and Muslim extremists have actually posted videos of them decapitating our troops...
So I say FUCK CENSORSHIP and let us see this fucker's head blown to pieces!!!!!!!!

Re: The End of Osama Bin Laden, In Pictures.

Nice post but what a media circus.. I don't buy it. Stupid hysterical Americans...
I totally agree, however it's completely predictable, it's in their nature. The fact that the yanks call Osama the world biggest terrorist is an absolute joke. Osama might be responsible for several thousand deaths (if the 9/11 attacks are even really perpetrated by him), yet the yanks have killed over a hundred thousand innocent civilians (plus being indirectly responcible for the deaths of hundreds of UN/ISAF/NATO soldiers). So bush and now obama are by far the biggest terrorists the world has ever seen, Osama is the fairy godmother compared to them. It just shows what a bunch of hypocrites yanks are.

This could be a fake but, take a look for yourself. I can not post the image because it is on flickr. If this has already been posted, sorry in advance.
