Video shows frightened shoppers trying to escape in a busy marketplace in West Bengal on Saturday.

Suddenly an elephant appears and charges towards a shop packed full of people who have fled in the Arambagh area of Hooghly district.

The elephant reportedly injured bystanders and damaged several cars in the attack.

Forest department officials tried to chase the animal towards the Garbeta Forest before it was eventually tranquilised and taken to North Bengal.
