East Jesus, CA
If you’ve never heard of Slab City, http://www.documentingreality.com/fo...ab-city-137861 it's an established colony of people in the desert land of Southern California that has all kinds of unusual things. Located only a mile away from Salvation Mountain into Slab City is an outdoor art exhibition called East Jesus. East Jesus is an experimental, habitable, extensible artwork in progress since 2006 begun by the late Charles Stephen Russell in Slab City, California. Charles Russell began taking in all the trash that people dumped in this desert land and turned them into extraordinary art works. About 80% of the arts that you’ll see here were created by him; however, as East Jesus gains popularity, artists and creative people from around the country come here to add their own works to the collection. The inhabitants of East Jesus (and off site members) provide a refuge for artists, musicians, survivalists, writers, scientists, and laymen. They are dedicated to providing a working model of an improbable improvised community. Completely self-contained and run entirely on solar power, East Jesus attempts to use and recycle every bit of consumable trash. They are unique in the Slabs in that they have Human Manure composting to reduce and improve the impact on the local desert environment. The place is quite literally open for anyone from anywhere with the passion to create art to come over and create (or destroy) something. If you’ve got trash, bring them over and make something out of it. East Jesus FB https://www.facebook.com/eastjesus I will be adding one more thread about Salvation Mountain. |
