Look like he/she just got molars. Getting molars can uncomfortable and painful. Maybe the dog was easing the pain by chewing on a chain.

Ok that was pretty funny. Had the husky sitting next to me and she was watching thinking the same thing. Glad she's ok - she was so calm.
