Does Anybody Know What This Is?
Alright, I was driving on the back roads near my home in rural Illinois and I stumbled across this. It seems to be some sort of abandoned military installation, possibly some sort of abandoned Nike base or a radar station. What do you think about this?

Before there was global communication so easily available, companies and sometimes the government would set up intermediate communication stations. This place has a strange design tho... like what is going on with the guart tower shaped like a "T". Walk around it, it might have a bunker lol.

It does appear to be some type of military or some other secure facility. Aside from the big communication dish, there appears to be no windows in which to view into the buildings. Not to mention the secure fence with barb wire. Someone definitely didn't didn't want strangers to trespass. Please update the thread if you can find more details. If you were to check it out, be careful as my guess is that while it appears abandoned it isn't.

It's definitely not abandoned or the grass would not be cut. If it's federal property they could shoot you or incarcerate you for as long as they wish for trespassing. Just jump the fence and check it out. Maybe just a station for monitoring weather.

i have found places like that here in washington state... they are perched on hills here and are old, abandoned missile silos... maybe its that?  |
