I'd love to know more about this family, where the house is, and why the people abandoned it so suddenly. The article is so vague.

Re: Dilapidated "time Capsule" Home in Ontario

A house that has been sealed up with no movement or airflow can have minimal dust collection on surfaces. Dust is primarily human skin flakes and stuff blown in from outside.

The Gillette Blue Blade dispenser box dates at 1935. That image and text arrangement are specific to that year (http://www.mr-razor.com/Rasierklingen/Rasierklingen.htm). A dispenser box, however, is theoretically reusable so it could be a few years old at the time of abandonment.

The stereo cabinet, however, looks 1960s. The stereo equipment itself is solidly in the 1970s based on the clear plastic lids. There are like 5 record players stacked up there so maybe the collected the damn things.

Upholstered furniture is early 20th century, circa 1920s I think. Some of the wood stuff is older.

No way the rubber band around the razor blades lasted this long
Speaking from personal experience, I can tell you that when rubber bands, even stretched ones, are "frozen" in place for many years, they eventually become rigid in that shape. When you touch them they crumble apart. This one certainly could be many years old, and just degraded to the point of being hard and stuck in that shape.
