Deep-Sea Animals: Anglerfish, Goblin Shark, Frilled Shark and Giant Squid
A collection of deep-sea animals includes anglerfishes, dragonfish and viperfish types, fangtooths, a glass squid, a transparent pelagic octopus, a giant isopod, a blobfish, a gulper eel, a goblin shark and a bigfin squid filmed by a remotely operated vehicle. Two photographs can be tied to documented events in Japan. A 1.6-meter female frilled shark was found in shallow water near Numazu on January 21, 2007, and taken to Awashima Marine Park. The shark died within hours. Another photograph shows a giant squid hauled to the surface on a baited line off the Ogasawara Islands on December 4, 2006. Reported estimates of that squid's length differed substantially. |

They are great. The ocean depths are truly the last unexplored regions in the world. Imagine some of the things we will eventually find down there!
