Re: The Cruelty of White Tiger Breeding
It is. I work with exotic animals. While it is possible the white tiger dates back to one specific white tiger, inbreeding is not done to create the color. Breeders (good ones) are very careful to select tigers that are as unrelated as possible. It is possible that somewhere great great great grandfather was related for example. But the genes are so far spread out at that point and cleaned up, that it doesn't hurt. Example, if you believe in the bible, we all came from Adam and Eve. That would mean in some way we are inbred in the same maner the white tiger is. Deformities happen in ALL animals. So taking a few pictures of deforemed white tigers and claiming it is result of inbreeding is crap. They are not all cross eyed either. Don't know where they came up with that story. As with any breeder there are good ones and bad ones. The majority of those who breed white tigers are good ones, and are very careful about the gene selection and ancestry of the mate they choose. I hate seeing vids from PETA and other rescues who go beond what is neccesary, and make up stories to try and win over a crowd.
