The spores of the Cordyceps fungi in the Amazon are meat eating and parasitic. They target mostly ants.

The ants grow a fuzz they cannot get rid off and that drives them insane, it slowly consumes them and kills them. From their collapsed body, grows a 'flowering' stalk. Now this is the creepy bit- the stalk changes form with different species.
