Christman Genipperteinga was a 16th century bandit and serial killer. He reportedly murdered 964 people starting in his youth over a 13 year period from 1568 until his capture in 1581. The story of Christman Genipperteinga is contained in a contemporary pamphlet from 1581. As early as 1587, just 6 years after its publication at least one chronicler included the story as factual.


Sex Slave

Christman Genipperteinga moved to frassburg and met an intended victim he would keep as a sex slave for several years. His victim was travelling to Trier to meet her brother. He changed his mind and ordered her under death threats to come live with him, and made her swear that she would never betray him and for the next seven years, she served his sexual wants. Whenever Christman went out to find a new victim, he bound her with a chain so she could not escape.


Downfall

Christman finally relented to his victims repeated pleading that she might be allowed to meet new people, and granted her expressed wish to visit bergkessel under condition of a renowned oath that she would not betray him. Once there, she saw the little children running in the streets playing with each other, she broke down and fell to her knees and weeped. Many people commiserated with her and asked her what her troubles were but she refused to reveal any details fearing punishment from Genippergeinga. She was then brought before the mayor then confessed everything she knew, she was given a sack of peas which she used to mark the way to Christmans cave complex. On may 27, 1581 30 armed men set out to capture Genippergeinga, who was asleep in his cave during his capture, as the men barged in, Christman cried out: "oh you faithless betrayer and whore, had I known this, I would have strangled you long ago."


Confession, Trial and Execution

On june 17, 1581 Christman Genippergeinga was found guilty, and was condemned to death by the breaking wheel. He endured 9 days on the wheel before expiring, kept alive in his suffering with strong drink everyday so that his heart would be strengthened.
