Ah yes, I see. I misunderstood by thinking that there was a name confusion of who was who in the film. My apologies

And would the option still be available had he signed an agreement stating that he wished to be euthanized once his disease progressed to a certain point that he no longer wished to live?

Sadly it doesn't work that way in most places that allow assisted suicide. You need to be mentally aware and physically capable of taking the drug yourself. Sadly this leads to people going sooner than they'd like becsuse if they leave it too long they won't be able to do it and are then screwed
