Re: Château De "Noisy"

It is such a waste to see...they must have hidden a bunch of bodies in the walls and under the floor to not allow the govt to save this building.

Re: Château De "Noisy"

That last picture kind of reminds me of the Biltmore House, in Asheville, NC.

Re: Château De "Noisy"

Noisy is the name of the road btw.

The aristocratic family that owned the château refused assistance of the government. Until 1991 the surrounding terrain was sometimes used for outdoor activities for kids.

In 2014 a permit for demolition was given. Meanwhile a congregation was created to protect the castle. it has been rumoured that the Earl is prepared to wait for a proposal for a take over. the castle remains still in this state of neglect.

Re: Château De "Noisy"

got some more info
  • the tower is 56 m high and was constructed by a french architect in 1903-1906
  • in WW2 the germans seized the castle and the family had to leave but they didn't return
  • in febr. 2015 the Walloon gov. decided after a study that the good would not get on the heritage list ... and get subsidized
  • the cost for restoration is est. 25 million €
  • a group of investors is headed by mr Alain Maes, and they can put on the table 5 mil
  • the major of Houyet doubts that these investors can provide the 25 million, and wonders why they need to stay anonymous
  • the earl and Mr Maes had a talk
  • the earl favors a demolition due to the safety risks
  • the investors are not convinced that the goverment or the city will give them "free hands": interfere or ordering the works to stop
