It reminds me of how they make those vascular displays at the Body Worlds exhibits. They inject the body with coloured wax, and let it harden, and then bath the entire body in an acid that dissolves flesh, bone, and whatever else, but that the wax is impervious to. Leaving just the wax casting of the circulatory system in the end.
