Canadian Woman and Dog Have a Close Encounter with a Juvenile Grizzly Bear
A Canadian woman named Jessie and her leashed dog, Skoki, had the encounter on a gravel trail near Mount Engadine Lodge in Kananaskis, Alberta. Jessie managed to stay calm, slowly backed away, and firmly commanded the bear to go away without running, which wildlife experts note prevented a full attack. She ultimately distracted the bear by throwing her coffee mug at it. As the bear investigated the mug, she and her dog darted into a camp tent while other campers shouted to scare the bear away. Neither Jessie nor her dog were harmed. She did not have bear spray because she only planned to step away from her camp for a five-minute walk.  |

It hurts and scares to say it, but if it had been me, in a place like this I would probably have had my dog unleashed (if I had one). So... Yeah  It would have went much, much worse I think. Thinking of it, bears (and other potentially dangerous wildlife) are not even a concern in my neck of the woods, if I knew it was a possibility maybe I'd behave differently. But still. |
