BoxOfficeQuant's 100 Years of Set Locations: 2,001 Films, 2011

In 2011, film data blog BoxOfficeQuant created an interactive world map called "100 Years of Set Locations." The Google Maps project plotted filming locations for roughly 2,000 top-rated films on IMDb, along with "The Fall," whose globe-spanning production reportedly inspired the project. Its header gave the final count as 2,001 films mapped.

The map displays yellow location markers across a hybrid world view. The heaviest concentrations appear in the United States, particularly around Hollywood, and across Europe, while West Africa and eastern Russia have comparatively few markers. Users could switch among map, satellite, hybrid and terrain views.
