Alabama Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries biologists were able to measure the gator at 15 feet, but weighing it posed a challenge. The first attempt completely destroyed a winch assembly used to hoist most average gators. So they had to use a backhoe to lift the animal. It weighed in at 1,011.5 pounds. Bigger alligators? I myself did a quick scan, remembering monsters like Lolong, which was much bigger than this one. But Lolong was a saltie -and- a crocodile. It appears that this alligator is the biggest *gator* ever caught. Bigger saltwater crocs have been recorded, so you'd be right on that side of the equation.  |

Can't you guys read...it's the biggest STATE record. My state (Louisiana) has the all-time record which was 19' 2".

AS of two years ago, there was a 12-footer in the San Jacinto, about a half-mile from where I live. People would talk about seeing a full grown dog, he was a local stray given the same Dumpster Dog and taken care of by people around the area, be eaten in one bite. The dog went over by a small floating dock, more so two floating drums and a metal walkway, and began to bark at the water, and in an instant was just gone. Around that time, I was getting my truck inspected at a place only a few hundred yards from where this happened, and the guy who lived there said they had caught the thing. Someone managed to hunt it down and shoot, drag to shore, tape the mouth, and called the game warden for pick up. Well, whoever shot the gator only stunned him, and a couple minutes after he was taped up, he woke up and walked back in the water. I don't think, even with a taped mouth, that anyone got up to stop that thing from going home. Alligators are awesome, and alligator gar... and alligator snapping turtles. I love living down here. |
