Re: Ben: Diary of a Heroin Addict
I saw this when I was in rehab at the BAC O'connor. Apparently Ben was due to go to Edward Myers (our detox unit) prior to heading to the BAC, but in the end he didn't make it through detoxing. It was heart-wrenching to watch, very - pardon the phrase - sobering. It certainly makes you feel lucky to be clean/sober. I felt so bad for his parents.

What's with this site? There's never a video to watch. I'm a paid member dammit and I know my rights! OK.

Re: Ben: Diary of a Heroin Addict
I mostly think you're right. Many addicts are self-medicating a mental illness, and receive, or NEED to receive a dual diagnosis. There are rehab facilities (in the US, anyway) that treat both disorders simultaneously, because by having mental illness PLUS an addiction disorder greatly affects the treatment plan and prognosis for recovery for both disorders -- and those patients' cases have to be treated in a different way from others [who are dx with addiction disorder only]. Sometimes it isn't just a matter of willpower, or desire to quit, sadly. For some people it goes a bit deeper and is more complex and difficult to treat. |
