Bear Mauls Man at Phetchabun Temple, Thailand, August 2, 2017
A captive Asian black bear mauled a male visitor at a Buddhist temple in Phetchabun province, Thailand, on August 2, 2017. The man survived after being pulled from the enclosure and taken to a hospital. The bear grabbed the visitor's wrist and dragged him into its enclosure. Accounts differ on whether he had been feeding or teasing it. The bear pinned him to the ground and dragged him across the enclosure while bystanders tried to intervene with poles and cold water. A caretaker struck the bear with a pole as others pulled the injured man to safety. The bear, a six-year-old female named Kaew, was subsequently moved to the Khao Kho Wildlife Captive Breeding Centre. |

Re: Bear Mauls Man at Phetchabun Temple, Thailand, August 2, 2017
Summer 2017, Naiphum Promratee, 36, had been with 4 friends when he decided to visit the temple in rural Phetchabun province, Thailand. The monks keep around two dozen wild boars and a number of bears in a small enclosure which they care for and allow guests to feed. Naiphum stood on a surrounding wall and reached into the enclosure to feed the boars and he began playing with them – before teasing the bear with food. The bear stood on its legs and grabbed Naiphum, dragging him into the enclosure, knocking him unconscious before tearing a lump from his shoulders. The man’s friend’s eventually distracted the enraged creature with a stick and jumped into the pit to free Naiphum. Emergency services arrived just after 11am local time. Naiphum was rushed to hospital where he is recovering and able to talk. Moved to other forum section as he survived. |

Please don't drink, and then feed the bears. And do NOT offer drinks to the bears, either! |
