Asylum Art
Not too far from me is the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum. If you are ever in WV I highly recommend a tour. I've been in many old abandoned buildings but this place is different. I've taken many a ghost tour and never experienced anything so I'm not big on that aspect of things but the place certainly has a life of it's own. Built during the Civil War it initially housed soldiers and was instrumental in creating the break from Virginia. Over they years it became over crowded and not always a nice place. lobotomies were "perfected" here. I've had relatives that were both housed there and worked there. One area I always find interesting is the rooms they have open with art work from those who lived there. There are three rooms full of art. This is just a small example. As a bonus, the last pic shows the room where the lobotomies were performed. |

Re: Asylum Art
I haven't been there are night. I have been at the prison in Moundsville at night....... You need to go. I've been to many, many old buildings and all I can say is the Asylum is different. The building is alive unlike any of the other places I've been. |
