The Abandoned Places of Northern England
A few years ago I completed a photography project detailing some of the abandoned buildings / structures in and around where I live. Thought I would share some of them and a little information about the places I took them - Durham baths - Closed several years ago following the contruction of a new leisure complex, the old baths in Durham City where left to disrepair. The building played host to an illegal rave last year, which is where much of the damage came from. http://www.durhamtimes.co.uk/news/82...swimming_pool/ ![]() ![]() Beamish Abandoned train yard The abandoned train yard near Beamish, Durham is also a public museum. It contains various examples of abandoned and out of service trains, many of which lost their purpose following the closure of many of the local mines in 60's / 70's. ![]() ![]() ![]() Ushaw Catholic college http://www.casebook.org/ripper_media...l?printer=true Ushaw Catholic college was, for a time, the foremost place to go for aspiring men of the cloth. It also was the place Jack the Ripper suspect Francis Thompson / Tumblety, was educated. The old buildings have remained closed for several decade now. When I visited a couple of years ago, the place was a death trap. Holes in the floor, collpased walls etc. Still, it was a great place to visit. Unfortunatly, I didn't get many shots as I was arrested for trespassing... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Windlestone Hall - Ex prisoner of war camp. And Finchale ammo storage bunker Now abandoned, Windlestone hall was once used as a prisoner of war camp during WW2. Some of the original fortified buildings still remain, including the converted gaurd towers. It would have been great to have got more photos of this place, but I was escorted off the land by a security gaurd (hazard of the job) I have since come to dislike (hate) the stylised editing I did on these photos. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I will try and add some more images when I get the time. Cheers. |
