Abandoned Asylum & Orphanage

At the request of Kelly, I've put together a small collection of the pictures I have of a recent ghost hunt to one of the coolest buildings I've ever had the privilege of being in.

This is the Newsham Park Hospital and Orphanage, situated in the city centre of Liverpool, UK. Here is some of the background information I could find on the place, and there's not much for such a cool place:

The institution was opened in 1874 as an Orphanage for the education and support of the orphans of British seamen and by 1899 there were 321 children housed here under the harsh supervision of a number of Matrons. Conditions were harsh and cruel, siblings were segregated and "they weren't fussy how they punished you" described one former resident. The First World War brought more residents to the Orphanage and by 1918 almost one thousand orphans were being housed here. The Orphanage eventually closed in 1951 and became Newsham Park hospital which remained in operation until 1988 when it closed down completely.
I will leave out the ghost stuff for now and just concentrate on the building.

We were to be staying overnight from 8pm til 4am, and as we approached this place, it was so foreboding but absolutely stunning:

Got through the gates and round the back, very excited as you can see:

The inside was just every bit the abandoned hospital you would expect it to be, including this random balcony, complete with pictures of old staff members, and peeling paint:

After exploring the main building for a while we headed down to the basement:

This room is the sanatorium, during it's time as an orphanage, a TB epidemic filled this room and many kids died here:

Another feature of the orphanage was this corridor located in the attic, used as solitary confinement for naughty children, they would be placed in these pitch dark little cupboards for up to 3 days a time:

And finally, the bit you've all been waiting for...We headed outside to spend some time in the morgue:

Thank you for looking, and I am sorry about the rubbish quality of the pictures, most of them are taken in the pitch dark (the only light coming from the flash) with a very outdated digital camera

That's how long we had to explore, you have to arrange your own accommodation. I have another ghost hunt next weekend.

I'm really sceptical, I do believe in something we don't yet understand affecting the physical environment but I will look for any scientific explanation before putting it down to paranormal.

I don't believe in ouija boards, table tipping, psychics or orb photo's. However a lot of believers will argue that orb in the picture of the closet in the corridor is an orb because it's bright, alone and has an 'aura'. We did catch a good EVP on our voice recorder in the morgue.

Thanks for looking guys!

Re: Abandoned Asylum & Orphanage

Absolutely belting photos and thanks for sharing your experience, you must have had an amazing time exploring there

I'm well jealous as am very into old buildings and eerie goings-on myself. One of my ambitions is to stay in a haunted location overnight
