A widely circulated video clip showed the appearance of 7 suns in the sky of the city of Chengdu in Sichuan Province, southwest China.

The phenomenon of light refraction occurs when light passes through different layers of the atmosphere, which vary in density.

The atmosphere consists of air layers of varying densities; some are hot and less visually dense, and others are cold and denser.

When sunlight passes through these layers, the rays are refracted and distorted, causing the sun to appear before its actual sunrise or after sunset.

In this case, the refraction and scattering of light in the atmosphere may be behind the appearance of multiple shadows of the sun, resulting in what appears to be 7 adjacent suns in the sky.
